The status quo

As a team of two beekeepers from the Mostviertel, Christoph and Benjamin have been working together with bees for more than 11 years, providing sustainable pollination services for the population and agriculture facilities. By using swarm intelligence to advance technology, we enable better processes for a more contemporary way of working with bees. With tec2bee we create added value for beekeepers!

The challenge: Beekeepers use smoke from burned wood to keep the bees calm and prevent the beekeeper from being stung while working on the beehives. For hundreds of years, this process has never changed significantly.

A metal with a bellow is used to keep wood swelling, using the resulting smoke to harness the bees' instinct. When they smell smoke, they calm down. This instinct has evolved because bees in the wild had to take their honey stocks in peace and quiet as travel provisions during forest fires before fleeing. Should we still do it this way?

Our challenge

Develop together a solution for all beekeepers around the globe that makes the current status quo obsolete. The result of our challenge should be a product that ensures:

  • Minimised fire hazard without fine dust

  • More flexibility

  • Ergonomic use

The open Task

Make our product nicer with a beautiful design with great user experience and well thought-out ergonomic use.

  • 3D development and 3D printing

  • Electronic development

  • Construction and industrial design

  • Development of sealing parts

  • Development and mixing of liquids with chemical knowledge

Perspectives

We bring our 15+ years of combined experience working with bees. We can transfer every step of the challenge into a test environment in an agile way.

We are a young, open-minded team and are looking for creative thinkers, makers and innovators who enjoy changing the technological world of beekeeping.
